I always find myself staring at the big tarpaulins of different schools, bearing the name and photos of their most treasured topnotchers from different fields. I would not deny that it was my dream to become one - to be a LET Topnotcher. I even told myself that I will not going to enter med school anymore if ever I made it to the list.
Let me share you my journey towards looking for a LET review center.
Since I really wanted to become a topnotcher, I started hoarding review materials at the bookstore/booksale. I am always very excited and eager to read them, but I don't have the time and freedom to do so. I was a preschool teacher at that time, and at the same time, an IT for our department. I usually go to work at 6:45am and go home at 9:00pm. When I am at home, I just wanted to sleep than to study.
While self-reviewing for the LET, I am also reviewing for the NMAT. Until one time, I realized that I need help. I need to look for a review center that will help me to become a topnotcher. And that's how I learned about MindGym.
I started browsing at their website first, trying to answer the sample LET items there. I was convinced that they can help me reach my goal. So the next day, I asked my co-teacher (I stutter a lot when I am using the telephone) to call MindGym and inquire for me. After that phone call, she told me that she wants to review there too, and we convinced another co-teacher to go with us. After a week, I, along with my two co-teachers went there to take the diagnostic exam. After checking the papers, Ms. Precious, the secretary there, told me that my score was high but I need to study more if I really wanted to become a topnotcher.
A week after, we enrolled at MindGym, and the review started. I was expecting that MindGym will conduct our review sessions in a traditional way. I was wrong. The review during weekends will usually starts at 9am and will end at 9pm. Coach Albert, Coach Alice, Coach Melane, and the other coaches, are very innovative in presenting the lessons that we need to learn. There are a lot of ice breakers, games, motivational activities, memory enhancing techniques, etc. MindGym will provide you with tons of review materials without any additional cost.
I was looking for a review center but what I found is a loving family who willingly supported me all the way. I learned that I should have the right goals, proper emotions, and sufficient knowledge to pass/top the LET. During the sessions, different topnotchers, high raters, and LET passers, often visit us to encourage and inspire us. I cannot forget what Sir Senen Pineda told us, the hash tag purify your intention.
Parang tinamaan ako. I wanted to become a topnotcher to have my own tarpaulin. It is always about me. I am so arrogant that I forgot that being a teacher means being selfless, not selfish. I only have my goal and knowledge, but not the right emotions. I am so worried up until the actual LET day that because I am not sure about my intentions, I will fail the examination.
I waited for the results. I downloaded the list. My name was not at the topnotchers list. I begun to cry. I thought I failed, but when I was looking at the letter C, I saw it, CUNANAN, JUSTINE MIA R. I passed! I was relieved and happy.
I know what went wrong. It is okay to aim high and reach for the stars, but always dream not only for yourself but also for the betterment of the world.
